New York/New England Problems

From whywind.org

Upstate New York has been a hotbed of wind turbine activity. From a noise standpoint, problematical wind projects include Tug Hill and Cohocton. This interview, 11mb, 11 minutes with Congressman Eric Massa is a real eye-opener, touching on most of the issues.

Pennsylvania has a couple of projects that have problems - Meyersdale and Juniata Township.

Maine's first major project was Mars Hill, where the problems are which has all by itself slowed down wind farm development in New England. Medical doctors have written critically of Mars Hill and Maine's oversight of wind turbines. Mars Hill is important for reasons other than just listing complaints, so I've created a more detailed report on it. There's also some Mars Hill letters linked to below.

Vinalhaven, part of the Fox Islands, installed 3 turbines in a community project to cut their electricity costs. Unfortunately, their experience with the noise is all too similar to everyone else's. To be fair, the developers did respond. Update - the local radio station interviewed (60+ mb!) some of the Vinalhaven residents for almost an hour. These are the voices of real people with a real problem. If there's ever a resolution, I'll post it, but I'm not holding my breath. Experience shows that when there's this much money involved, a few neighbors are expendable. Read/listen and believe.

A good way to search out these problems is to go to wind-watch.org and type in the name of the state or location you're interested in, plus "noise" and peruse the results. Here's a typical result.
